This dialog allows you to control how much icon information is cataloged for each volume ejected. You have separate controls for floppies and other, larger, removable media since you may wish to treat them differently. Searching by name, and locating via aliases are fully functional without cataloging icons.
Many files will be displayed with icons even if the icons are not cataloged. This occurs if their icons are already in your startup volume’s desktop file. In this case, however, the icons may disappear later if you have to “rebuild” the desktop.
Floppy Disks:
All options described below take effect the next time you Eject a floppy disk that has not been cataloged yet. These are the default options, the options you actually use for a particular disk may be changed when the media is ejected.
Save Icons for:
This allows you to specify what types of files will have their icons cataloged. With no icons stored, you will be able to catalog up to 2500,000 files. Selecting color icons for all file types will reduce this number by about 25%.
[X] Applications
Selecting this option saves icons for the applications, and each of their documents. The space required varies according to the number of document types the application supports. This varies from 2K to 25K depending on the application.
[X] Inits
Many system files, such as Inits, Control Panels, and DAs, contain their own icons. Skipping these icons will not effect the catalog’s functionality.
[X] Custom
It is possible for documents (and any other file) to have their own custom icon. You may choose whether you wish to have these icons cataloged. They will occupy approximately 2K per file containing a custom icon.
Icon storage:
This lets you specify how much icon information is stored with each file.
(•) B/W Icons
This option adds only the black and white icon information to the catalog volume. Selecting this option will decrease the storage requirements by approximately 10%.
(•) Color Icons
This option adds color icon information to the catalog volume. This allows cataloged entries to be displayed with all the detail of the original.
Other Removables:
The same set of controls as above except for other media such a SyQuest, M/O, or Bernoulli disks. If space on your catalog volume is of concern, it is recommended that you save only document names since you could be looking at cataloging thousands of files.
